Bagasse is the fibrous matter that remains after sugarcane is crushed to extract their juice. It is one of the important biomass sources, which is used as a fuel in the sugar industry. As a result, large quantities of fly ash are generated and create a serious disposal problem. This is further aggravated by the presence of unburnt bagasse mainly as carbonized fiber. How to deal with this residue, and how to make them useful? In fact, as the residue of sugar cane with small moisture level, bagasse is an ideal raw material for making pellets. It has a high energy content and burn quality. If those abandoned bagasse is transformed into bagasse pellets, there will be remarkable profit!

Bagasse is usually piled up as waste or to be used to provide energy or fuel for cogeneration plants or industry boilers. Owing to high moisture content, direct burning of loose bagasse in conventional grates is associated with very low thermal efficiency and widespread air pollution. The conversion efficiencies are as low as 40% with particulate emissions in the flue gases in excess of 3000 mg/ Nm3. In addition, a large percentage of unburnt carbonaceous ash has to be disposed of. Bagasse pellets have low moisture content and densified form which overcomes the above-mentioned problems with direct firing of bagasse.

In addition, there are other advantages of bagasse pellet
1. Minimize problems of disposing of bagasse
2. Easy in handling and storage due to its size
3. Consistent quality
4. Economic to users compared to other forms of fuel
5. High calorific value ranges between 4.5MJ/kg-18 MJ/kg

Bagasse Pellet Machine

A Bagasse pellet machine is also called a bagasse pellet mill, or bagasse pellet press. A small bagasse pellet mill is usually flat die designed, mainly used for making bagasse pellets at home or on the farm. A small bagasse pellet machine is very convenient to process bagasse into useful bagasse pellets fuel for cooking or heating. Designed with a flexible body, compact structure, powerful processing capacity, and premium quality, our small bagasse pellet machine is suitable for most family users or small factories, or individuals to use. You can carry it to where is convenient to pelletize at any time. This machine is so enduring and durable that you can operate it for as long as 24 hours continuously and stably with low noise.

How to Make Bagasse Pellets

Firstly, bagasse waste will be dried down to 10-12% moisture
Secondly, dried bagasse needs to be crushed into powder by a hammer mill usually with ø 5 mm hammer mill screen.
Thirdly, it will be conveyed into a bagasse pellet mill in small-scale pellet production. For large-scale production, A ring die pellet mill can be considered. The raw material will be compressed into small granules between rollers and die through the die holes.
Fourthly, the cutter cuts the exposed pellet into regular lengths. Bagasse pellets are produced as fuel for burning. For household stoves, the diameter of the pellet should be 6-8mm. For industrial use, a diameter of 8-18mm is OK.
Fifthly, cool the pellets and then pack them.
