Rice Straw Pellet Machine for Making  Fuel Pellets from Rice Straws

The Rice straw pellet mill is the most important piece of equipment in the whole rice straw pellet processing. Owning more than 10 years of experience, we have designed the rice straw pellet machine especially for converting rice straw and other kinds of straws into fuel pellets, and we guarantee the quality of the rice straw pellet machine and the services we offer to you.

The harvesting of rice leaves a large quantity of rice straw. For every 4 tons of rice grain, 6 tons of straw are produced. Straw as the primary source of energy is used in most countries and accounts for 14% of the total energy consumption in the world. After converting into rice straw pellets by rice straw pellet machine, it can be used as fuel for cooking, drying agricultural products, and stable bedding for animals or as a material in industrial processes. Therefore the application of rice straw pellet machines for recycling energy from rice straws has gained popularity since the energy crisis and global warming threat.rice_stalks_after_rice_harvesting_lit

The following are two hot sale rice straw pellet mills, one is driven by electricity, and the other is a diesel engine. Here we recommend a diesel engine flat die pellet mill for making rice straw pellets, as this pellet mill is more convenient to use on-farm. We also have other diesel pellet mill with different capacities, please tell us your capacity requirement when you send an inquiry.

Why Are Rice Straws Made into Fuel Pellets?

Disadvantages of Rice Straw as Fuel for Direct Combustion
In comparison with fossil fuel like coal and oil still the dominant fuel in electricity and heat generation, often reveals inferior properties of straw. It is a low grade with high volatile, low calorific and density values, is a bulkier fuel with poorer handling and transportation characteristics, its fibrous nature and high content of alkali compounds could potentially cause slagging, fouling, and grate sintering this makes it difficult to handle, transport and store efficiently, a major constraint to its use as an energy source. Therefore, in order to minimize the cost of transporting, handling, and storage, the densification of straw should be utilized.

Advantages of Rice Straw Pellets as Renewable Energy

  • The straw pellet is the most common densified straw product. The following table shows the general comparison between straw and straw pellets.
  • An increased bulk density from 80-150 to 600-700 kg/m3 can reduce transportation costs and storage volume and is easier for handling.
  • A lower moisture content, lower than 10%, is good for long conservation and less loss of product during storage.
  • An increased energy density and more homogeneous composition, result in higher energy efficiency and lower emission during combustion.

How to Make Rice Straw Pellets by Rice Straw Pellet Machine?

The pelleting process of rice straw mainly consists of the following steps.

1. Separating Rice Straw From Foreign Materials

Straw may contain far more foreign materials than sawdust, thus it is important to separate the rice straw from the foreign objects.

2. Grinding of Rice Straw

The size of the rice straw before sending it into the feeder of the rice straw pellet mill should be reduced to a uniform size of less than 5mm by a hammer mill.

3. Drying of Rice Straw

Generally speaking, rice straw is often air-dried, with a moisture content of typically 15%. So the drying of rice straw is unnecessary. However, if the moisture content of your rice straw is higher than 15%, drying with a rotary drum dryer is necessary.

4. Pelleting in Rice Straw Pellet Machine

After grinding and drying, the materials are transported into the rice straw pellet machine by conveyor. Under the pressure between the die and roller, the rice straw pellets are extruded out and cut into the desired length. The common size for rice straw fuel pellets is 6mm and 8mm.

5. Cooling of Rice Straw Pellets

In order to maintain the quality of pellets during the storage and handling, the extruded pellets with high temperature should be air quenched down to room temperature or a little higher by the counter flow pellets cooling machine.

Countries with Large Potential for the Application of Rice Straw Pellet Mill

Here are the top ten rice production countries that have a large potential for the application of rice straw pellet mills for recycling energy from rice straw, including China, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar, Brazil, and Japan.
