Types of Oil Palm Waste for Making Fuel Pellets

 Palm Kernel Shell
Palm kernel shells (PKS) are the shell fractions left after the nut has been removed after crushing in the palm oil mill. Palm kernel shells are a fibrous material and can be easily handled in bulk directly from the product line to the end use. PKS are the good quality biomass fuel with easy handling, easy crushing and limited biological activity due to low moisture content. With flat die pellet extruder, PKS can be compressed into pellets for heating.

So palm oil wood is favored by people to treat as raw materials for making pellets.  Oil Palm Frond 
Oil palm waste pellet machine is also suitable for oil palm frond which is usually regard as the feed for ruminants such as cattle, sheep, horse and goats. Oil palm frond contains high amount of fiber. The NDF (Neutral Detergent Fiber) content ranges from 63% to 80%, and ADF (Acid Detergent Fiber) content is in 45-57% range. Lignin content is also high with reported values ranging from 12% to 37%. To compress oil palm frond into pellets by palm waste machine can provide more nutritional and balanced diet for fattening ruminant animals.


Whole Processes for Making Palm Waste Pellets 


♦ Crushing. Crushing palm wastes into small particles by wood hammer mill is important before pelletizing because this process enables better bonding and high density of finished palm waste pellets. You can choose different crushers to grind PKS, oil palm wood or palm frond.
♦ Drying. If pellet materials prepared for pelletizing contain around 8%- 12% moisture content, they are suitable for direct pelletzing. If their moisture content is higher than 12%, you need the drying machine to lower their moisture content.
♦ Pelletizing. For home pellet making or small scale factory production, you can choose small flat die pellet mill. If large productivity, you must need ring die wood pellet mill rather than small portable pellet mill.
♦ Cooling. Pellets just pressed out by the pellet mill are very hot, so they should be cooled naturally or by pellets cooling machine in order to be packed or for use.
♦ Packaging. Pellets can be packed either in small bags or large bags for difference selling purposes.
