Due to biomass fuels with diverse properties, there are different pellet making machines designed by us to satisfy different biomass fuel transformation. Miscanthus pellet mill is the specialized equipment used to process miscanthus into miscanthus pellets as fuel for heating and cooking at home or industrial biomass boilers. The pellet machine is of compact design, little space occupancy and low power consumption, so it is easy to operate and start small scale miscanthus pellets production. Its flat pellet dies, rollers and other pellet mill parts are processed by professional technician under strict technical craft. The flat die design of miscanthus pellet machine is increasingly favored by many users.

In addition to opting the professional miscanthus pelletizer, the major characteristics of miscanthus and miscanthus pellets also should be known clearly for miscanthus pellet production.

Characteristics of Miscanthus and Miscanthus Pellets

Miscanthus commonly known as Elephant Grass is a high yielding energy crop that grows over 3 metres tall and produces a crop every year without the need for replanting. The rapid growth, low mineral content, and high biomass yield of miscanthus increasingly make it the key candidate biomass fuel crop, outperforming wheat straw, switchgrass and other alternatives.

Miscanthus Pellet

Miscanthus pellet, the add-value form of miscanthus, is individual cylinders of 6mm wide by 10-30mm in length. Available for similar prices as other biomass, miscanthus pellets bring the advantage of consistency in both format and property alongside ease of handling to a power generation operator. The pelleting process has further advantage from miscanthus in the required heat application and higher pressure process as the crop has a lower moisture content (Miscanthus 15% baled) and lignin content (Miscanthus 17%) than softwoods (30% lignin & 50% moisture). With a low mineral content and low moisture content, miscanthus pellets provide plenty of heat, and represent excellent value for money. Miscanthus pellets are extremely environmentally friendly, and ideal for using in biomass boiler. And it can also be used for animal bedding, typically for horses.

Miscanthus Pellet Superiority

Compared with the raw material, miscanthus pellets have lots of advantages: easier handling and storage, low dust and high calorific value, smaller carbon footprint. Moreover, miscanthus pelletizer offered by us is in competitive price. Therefore more and more miscanthus are compressed with into pellets which are extremely attractive from both the demand and supply side of the market.

Solution for Making Miscanthus Pellet

Harvesting: To use a machine that will cut the miscanthus crop fast enough, cost effectively and to put it into a swath that can be picked up using a traditional baler.
Crushing: Since the miscanthus is about 3-meter height and the structure is hard, it should be crushed first before pelletizing. Grind miscanthus into small size (1-5mm) with a hammer mill.
Drying: Moisture content of miscanthus should be controlled between 14% and 18% with a dryer. If in storage phase, the biomass miscanthus is dry enough for pelletizing.
Pelletizing: Use flat die pellet mill to compress miscanthus into pellets. Then to cool down miscanthus pellets, and pack & store these pellets. Here I recommend our AZSPLM 360 pellet mill, this pellet mill is of roller-driven design which has more compressing force to make grass pellets like miscanthus. You can choose either electric engine or diesel engine.
